In this Bibliophiles Review, Charlotte and Trilby swap opinions and insights on Mosquitoland, David Arnold’s critically acclaimed YA novel about one teen’s journey from Mississippi to Ohio to reunite with her mother and the people she meets along the way.

Trilby: What immediately impressed me about Mosquitoland was the diverse set of characters. David Arnold’s quirky, descriptive writing about people and places reminded me of films like Little Miss Sunshine.

Charlotte: I think this is the first road novel we’ve discussed on Bibliophiles. Mim [the protagonist] travels from “Mosquitoland,” her nickname for the deep South, up north to Ohio to see her mother who is mysteriously ailing.
